Aryabhata was born in 476 A.D. in India. His place of birth is not definite. the two places archeologists think he was born were:
1. Between the two famous rivers of Narmada and Godavari. This place was called Ashmaka county in Sanskrit. Today this place is in the state of Maharashtra.
2. Others say that he was born in Pataliputra, which is in modern state of Bihar.
Aryabhata passed away in 550 A.D around his mid-seventy's. The exact date and place of his death is unknown.
Aryabhata was schooled in the state of Kerala located in southern India. Later around his college years he moved to Kusumapura for further studies. As he got older, he wrote two books named Aryabhtiya and Aryabhata-siddhanta. These two books tell us about his his mathematical calculations and his theories. Not much is known about his family and job because of the lack of resources. Though some sources also say that he was the kulapati, the head, of the University at Nalanda which is located in Magadha, India.
